Can we forget

2.10

I would like to hear from all of you on this one. I' m going to say no, we won't be able to forget what's been done. Nor should we in my opinion.

To me forgetting means opening yourself up to repeat that past. It means not using the opportunity to learn from our situations and making ourselves be better because of what we went through. It means not addressing the issues we currently have because of our pasts and then being held captive to our triggers and fears.

I've seen time and again the physical damage caused by holding negative thoughts in, trying to forget, trying to ignore. It comes out and my mom is a perfect example. She held it in. Denied how bad it was until her mind finally couldn't take it anymore. She had a mental breakdown. Her mind just turned off. She started to block out things.

Blocking out bad memories may be wiped from you momentarily, but it still sits, right under the surface. Waiting for a sound, certain words, a smell. It festers and grows like a cancer. You know it's there, but maybe forget exactly what happened or why it's there. But it grows.

Forgetting one incident leads to another forgotten one. And then your mind starts to stop discriminating from good experiences and the bad ones. Other memories start to fade. Simple things like how to read a clock. What day it is. What year it is. You can't remember where you put things, how to do basic tasks, and then it escalates.

Your mind starts to forget how to remember. People start to fade. Then you forget your family members. We all like to think how special we are to our loved one. I was my mom's only daughter. We were so close. We did so many things together. Then she forgot my name. She thought I was someone else.

I can't begin to tell you how painful it is when your mom forgets who you are. I never thought that would happen to me. That's a moment I will likely never forget. It's been over 4 years since that happened and it still cuts.

You can to forget, but it's there. Denying it means your not allowing yourself to move beyond and heal, finding your strength, and taking back your power. You deserve to control your life. You deserve to be strong!
